Why the name "Unpacking Mormonism?"
When I hear the phrase "emotional baggage" I think of Mormonism. The cult-turned-religion still has an iron grip in places like the small town in Idaho where I grew up, and when I talk about my experience leaving, it doesn't feel out of place to use words like "escape" or "mind control." The more open I have been about these experiences, the better it feels. There's nothing like airing out the dirty laundry of a cult, or at least for me, unpacking all the of the emotional baggage that comes from leaving a very cult-like religion.
